Simple competitive Intelligence

The article below tells you how use a quick and easy Google tool for gaining competitive intelligence and it really works. I tried it on the TECenter website and discovered several pages of outdated information that I had no idea was still available on the site. The search exposed pages that were still available but don't show up on site tabs or drop downs. I was surprised by what it uncovered but it presented a great opportunity to do some overdue housekeeping on the website. I would recommend using it on your own company website first to find any information that may be exposed that you were unaware of then give it a try on your competitor sites.

Raiding Your Competitor’s Web Site for Secret Information

The pages you see on your competitor’s web site are just the pages they want you to see. Very often there is a lot of information on their site that they think you can’t find (and they wouldn’t want you to find), but you can find it. You’ll be surprised what you’ll learn about them…

Here’s the trick–it’s nothing super fancy, but few people have ever thought to use it as a competitive analysis strategy:

Go to Google.com and enter “site:CompetitorSite.com”

“CompetitorSite.com” is, of course, your competitor’s site and the “site:” part tells Google to list all the pages they’ve ever found on that particular web site.

If your competitor’s don’t understand how to thwart the search engines, search engines will find all sorts of juicy inside information on pages inside their site that they don’t realize have been made public.

I’ve found information that I know my competition doesn’t want people like me to know. Give it a shot, and you’ll be surprised what you find.

And if you want to be really nice, tell your competitor’s that their information is exposed and refer them to this web site so they can learn to better protect themselves–yeah, right!

Clients, The doors to the east client office space need to be kept shut and locked at all times. This includes the doors in the kitchen. Please do not prop them open any longer. Caller ID Update

I have some good news regarding the caller id option. We found out the cost and it is only a ONE TIME fee of $25 per company (NOT per phone) to get this set up. There is no monthly fee associated with the caller id. Please let me know by Friday, March 29th if you would like to set this up.

TECenter Caller Id

Everybody does have caller id for incoming calls on your phone. What we are trying to do is get the outgoing caller id working so that your company name shows up on other people phones when you call them. This is a work in progress and we are hoping that it works this time. Right now if you call some one it shows up as Boise State University with the number 426-2120 and this number is just a general phone recording for BSU.
